Improve 379 x 269

Delegates from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Derry & Strabane District Council are set to attend a seminar on OpenData in Letterkenny this week.

This OpenData seminar, which is being hosted by Donegal County Council, is being held as part of the EU NPA funded IMPROVE project which is looking at innovative ways to improve the design of technology driven public services.

Open Data is about making valuable data held by public bodies available and easily accessible online for reuse.  Technology and data are increasingly being used to transform the way services are planned, delivered and managed.

“The OpenData market in Donegal has a wide range of potential users from tourism and health applications, to the design of better public services. We are hoping to explore these topics and to see how they can deliver economic, social and democratic benefits in the county” says Brian Boyle, Head of information Systems.

“We have assembled a very knowledgeable panel of some of the leading practitioners and researchers in OpenData in Ireland. Topics to be explored on the day will range from OpenData from a County Council perspective to OpenData in a digital health environment, Cross border OpenData to public engagement using OpenData in the planning process”.

Daragh McDonough, IS Project Leader with Donegal County Council is urging anyone interested in OpenData  to come along to this seminar.

“This seminar should be of particular interest to those who are in the app development business, data analytics, or anyone with an interest in data in general. OpenData is a topic where there is potential for job creation and we are hoping to explore the OpenData landscape and discuss where those possibilities lie.”

The seminar will take place on Wednesday 12 October in the Letterkenny Public Services Centre.  For more information click here.
